Memory in Motion: Social Movements & Healing Transgenerational Trauma

The Memory in Motion conference is a women-only international summit that brings together scholars, frontline workers, artists, and cultural practitioners who carry and transform generational traumas into pathways of connection, meaning, and collective healing.

Hosted in Bosnia-Herzegovina, the gathering centers the lived experiences of women war crimes and war survivors from South Slavic, Palestinian, Syrian, and Ukrainian communities, many of whom were silenced by violence but never stopped remembering through cultural practices.

This conference is between two trauma scholars and field practitioners: Dr. Yael Danieli, known for coining and documenting the conspiracy of silence among Holocaust survivors and their children; and Dr. Danica Anderson, who draws from decades of fieldwork with South Slavic Muslim women, war crimes and war survivors and who developed the Kolo-Informed Trauma (KIT) model—rooted in oral memory and epigenetic healing through embodied cultural practices.

Both Dr. Yael Danieli and Dr. Danica Anderson are children of the WWII Holocaust. Dr. Danieli is a Jewish child of the Holocaust, while Dr. Anderson’s Serbian Orthodox Christian mother survived the Jasenovac concentration camp.
